Cap restored to $1000 per child
Earlier this week the Government has advised that it will be restoring the cap back to its original figure of $1000 for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS).
The tabled reduction of the cap to $700 would have led to more than 250,000 children facing the very real possibility of not having their treatment needs met.
Current figures show that 40% out of 10 children aged 5-10 years of age and 30% of children aged 9 – 14 years of age have decay in baby and permanent teeth. Any kind of reduction in the cap is bad news for the oral health of these children.
This week's decision by the Health Minister confirms the critically-importance of the CBDS as an investment in the dental health of Australian children.
